PIC Supports Marubeni in Commissioning of Nigerian Power Plant

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (October 15, 2010) – In August, PIC Asia Pacific (a subsidiary of PIC Group, Inc.) began supporting Marubeni in the commissioning of the Sapele Power Station located in the Delta State of Nigeria. This facility, which is owned by the Nigerian government, will have a rated capacity of 500 megawatts and will provide much needed power to the country once completed. The Sapele project will utilize four GE 9E combustion turbines in open cycle configuration.
PAP’s current on-site commissioning team includes five engineers being led by a Commissioning Manager. While the team is located in a remote region of the world and is living under tough conditions, PIC’s corporate office in Atlanta provides continual support. From employee care to overall program management and the development of site specific commissioning documentation, PIC is well known in the industry for its positive and proven performance.
Marubeni has been operating in Nigeria for over 30 years. Historically, Marubeni has subcontracted the commissioning responsibility of their EPC projects to outside vendors. Impressed by PIC’s start-up and commissioning capabilities, however, Marubeni saw the Sapele project as an opportunity to fully utilize one of its subsidiaries. Marubeni has two other on-going projects in the region that will eventually need commissioning support.
